Mass production issues...?
I bought my son a Tumble for Christmas. A couple of the green ramps were sticking on some of the pins on the board (didn't seem to be the fault of the ramps as every ramp stuck on those pins) and a couple of orange cross-overs were firing the ball off the board. On hearing this, the Tumble people sent me this "extra-bits" pack with more of the ramps and cross-overs. Since then we haven't had the problem recur because the challenges we've been facing recently are using different pieces and different pins. While it is slightly frustrating to my son that we sometimes have to restart the run to prove it works, inevitably we get there. He's enjoying the story in the book and really getting the concepts presented - so mission accomplished. Honestly, it has been quite difficult to resist working ahead in the book (or just tinkering) when he isn't using it. Addictive fun.
Excellent design, peerless support
Bought this for my son for the two of us to work through it. I am consistently impressed by the intentional, methodical, and brilliant design. It's a work of art for training the mind to think in algorithms.
Beware of Dog!
Great buy if you have a puppy at home! Don’t let your puppy stop the fun!
Turing Tumble Gift - Meh
I bought this as a gift for my 10-year old, along with sets of extra pieces and balls. First impression is that it's not worth the $100 or so I paid for it all. It's a relatively cheap piece of plastic. A fair price would be in the $29-$39 price range. No one follows the comic book guide included, though the web site makes that some type of special bonus. All the kids figured the comic book guide was rather ****** and unnecessary. They had fun building complex wheels and paths ... until it was bumped just slightly, and all of their work fell out of the plastic panel. All of the pieces fell out onto the floor. There's no mechanism to secure the parts to the panel board. They just sit there, using gravity at the very slightest angle, to stay in place. Again, it's not worth the amount paid for it. Very over priced. The concept is cool though, just wish it was made with a higher quality material and the wheel & directional parts were locked somehow into the design panel.
Can't say enough good things!
This was a Christmas gift for my young teen daughter. It has been used everyday since she opened it! She loves the challenge of solving the problems and is now creating her own. Best STEM gift ever! Would highly recommend to anyone!
Great product but
Love the product but sometimes the arm on the back of the unit prevent the pieces on the front from functions as designed. Frustrating for my seven year old who thinks she failed to solve the problem.
yopu need it if you want to fulfill all the levels!
